Meet your private guide during a 9am pickup at your accommodation in Le Havre or at the pier, off your cruise ship and take a seat in your air-conditioned minivan. Enjoy a snack of coffee and croissants, then travel onward to the beaches of Normandy — where violent struggles took place during the D-Day landings of World War II. During your private 1-day tour, visit the port at Arromanches — constructed by British soldiers to help land the Allied troops in June 1944 — and the Pointe du Hoc. Along the way, gain insight into the battles between opposing forces in WWII. After lunch (own expense) in a restaurant overlooking Sword Beach, visit the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer. Walk over the sands as your private guide brings the D-Day landings to life, and learn of the many Allied soldiers who laid down their lives in battle. Next, visit the Overlord Museum — home to displays of WWII artifacts, machinery, and weaponry — and see what kinds of equipment brought victory to the Allied forces during the D-Day landings. See gun batteries used by the Germans to protect the coast from the Allies at Longues-sur-Mer, then visit Sainte-Mère-Église — where the war’s first Allied paratroopers landed.
