It is said to be "small Kyoto of Hida" and it is protected as a preserved area with important traditional buildings. You will find a number of houses with roofs shaped like folded hands. You can feel the Japanese history and it creates a fantastic atmosphere to walk around! The houses and the buildings are all traditional, especially in its Old Town. You can go for a walk around the area and admire the architecture and its historical landmarks, like the Higashiyama Walk and the Takayama Jinya. You’ll be given some free time to have lunch in the city, so make sure to bring some cash and try out dishes made using top grade Hida Beef. Shirakawa-go, on the other hand, is known for the numerous gassho zukuri houses that are lined up all around it.
