Its massive dome and unique blend of Christian mosaics and Islamic calligraphy reflect centuries of religious and cultural history. Basilica Cistern Hidden beneath the streets of the Old City, the Basilica Cistern is a 6th-century underground water reservoir built during the reign of Emperor Justinian I.
