    The Eremo is a peaceful, humble and solitary spot, nestled in the woods where Francis and his followers dwelled in caves as hermits. The stunning view of the green valley and the surrounding hills you can enjoy from the little cloister is just amazing!

    In this simple, silent and inspiring place Francis composed the Canticle of the Creatures, the famous Crucifix of Saint Damien asked Him to repair the Church which was falling into ruin and Saint Clare spent her spiritual life with her companions.

    The huge Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels, which was built around the tiny Porziuncola Chapel, is the place where Francis prayed with His Friars and died. This is also where the thorns dropped off the roses where Francis threw himself to fight a temptation.
