Die Kirche des Hl. Franziskus beherbergt das Zeugnis des ältesten eucharistischen Wunders der katholischen Welt. Um das Jahr 700 bezweifelte der basilische Mönch die Gegenwart Christi in der Eucharistie: Während der Messe wurden das geweihte Heer und der Wein Fleisch und Blut. Die beiden Relikte, 5 Tropfen geronnenes Blut und dünne Membranen aus Fleisch, sind in einer Silbermonstranz und einer Kristallampulle aufbewahrt. Histologische Untersuchungen haben gezeigt, dass es sich um menschliches Blut und Herzgewebe mit der gleichen Blutgruppe (AB) handelt. Das Heiligtum wird jedes Jahr von Tausenden Pilgern aus der ganzen Welt besucht. Das Heiligtum von Manoppello wird als das wahre Antlitz Jesu Christi anerkannt. Ab 1646 ist das Heilige Antlitz der Verehrung der Menschen ausgesetzt. Es ist ein weicher Schleier, Kette und Schuss sind in Form einer normalen Weberei miteinander verwoben und das Antlitz des Turiner Grabtuchs und das von Manoppello Beide Stoffe waren auf den Leib Jesu gelegt worden.

The town of Lanciano is above all a cradle of art for the presence of numerous monuments, starting from the sanctuary of the Eucharistic Miracle which preserves the testimony of the oldest Eucharistic miracle of the Catholic world. Around the year 700, in the ancient church of San Legonziano, a Basilian monk expressed doubts about the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. During Mass, the consecrated host and wine really turned into flesh and blood. The relics are kept in a monstrance that is admired by thousands of faithful.

Inside the Shrine of Manoppello is enclosed, in a case, what is recognized as the true Face of Jesus Christ. A legend tells that in 1506 a pilgrim presented himself to the physicist Giacomo Antonio Leonelli and gave him the precious gift. The veil remained in the Leonelli house until 1608, then was stolen by a soldier of fortune and sold to Donatantonio De Fabritiis and from these donated to the Capuchin Father Clemente da Castelvecchio, who placed the relic between two glasses with a walnut frame. From 1646 the Holy Face is exposed to the veneration of the people. It is a soft veil, the warp and the weft are intertwined in the form of a normal weaving. The cloth measures 17 x 24 cm and shows the image of a male face with long hair and a beard divided in bands; it is the only case in the world where the image is identically visible on both sides.
