   Ferdinand III conquered Baeza in 1227 and Christianity settled in the city. Several parish churches were erected in a late Romanesque style, but currently only the church of Santa Cruz, located in the square of the same name and opposite the Jabalquinto Palace and the old University, is preserved.    Baeza is a university town. It was from the 16th to the 19th century and is now with the Antonio Machado headquarters of the International University of Andalusia. The original center was created in 1538 by a bull of Pope Paul III. Its original location was where the Baeza Museum is currently located. At the time there were only a dozen universities in Spain. Gradually, the center gained prestige and even became popularly known to Baeza as the “Andalusian Salamanca”, as the Castilian city was the home of the most prestigious university of the time. This second headquarters was erected in the same place where the hermitage of San León was located, to solve the problems of space that existed in the first location.
